FBUS & MBUS adapters
Nowadays the MAX3232 chip is easy to obtain in most cases but NuukiaWorld continues PanuWorld's tradition to develop 3232-free cable designs for connecting Nokia phones to a PC.
"Is it hard to find any MAX3232s? - It is not required anymore!" was the first slogan of the PanuWorld's MAX3232-free cable designs. The former "Miniature FBUS/M2BUS to V.24 adapter" was a big success.
The FBUS and MBUS adapters are used to connect a Nokia mobile phone to a PC. The reason for building a cable is to replace or duplicate the Nokia Data SuiteTM cable, or using the third-party applications with your phone. These applications include SMS and data call software and operator, caller group, wake-up graphic, and ringtone editors (if your phone/operator supports the functions).
NuukiaWorld has tested all adapters with Nokia 5100/6100 series GSM 900 phones. Satisfied visitors have reported compatibility with Nokia 3210 GSM phones, Nokia 5190, and Nokia 5165 (MBUS only). Jazec Szelozynski has used the FBUS adapter successfully with Nokia 8110, 8148, and 3110 and even with the Siemens C25 (thanks to Jazec for this information). In some older Nokia phones only MBUS is available. See chapter 2 for details.

The prices given above are approximate and may vary from country to country and from dealer to dealer. Tax (VAT) is included above, but the phone connector and casing is not.
Adapter circuits marked with * are based on the MAX232 chip. MAX232 is not the optimal but a cheap and common choice for mobile phone cable. The circuits are carefully designed to operate also with modern three-volt-based mobile phones. However, these circuits may fail with some PCs (for example some laptops).
WARNING: You cannot use a MAX3232 instead of MAX232 in the designs marked with * to achieve better performance. MAX3xxx series chips require different circuits than MAX232 chip. If you have MAX3xxx chips on hand, use the super miniature dual-mode adapter circuit (designed for MAX3221) as a reference.
