"Write Network List" script

Add/modify/delete network names in your phone

Write Network List script allows importing/exporting of the network names and codes (MCC/MNC) in PPM PLMN chunk from/to a text file. This can be used to customize the operator names displayed on the phone standby screen, free some flash space by deleting unnecessary operator names, or for updating the phone with an up-to-date network list.

Script parameters: <filename> [ASCII]

To export the network list (PLMN) from a flash file, run the script in the NokiX DUMPER mode. You will also see the amount of flash space used for the PLMN list. You can then edit the exported text file, or create a completely new one to import into your flash file. The file format is designed so that is can easily be copy-pasted from Excel etc. where you can keep the original version of your global list of GSM operators.

If you import a blank text file, all PLMN entries will be deleted from the flash. This can be used to free some flash space (usually 4...10 kB). In such case, the phone will show the Mobile Country Code (MCC) and Mobile Network Code (MNC) in the standby screen instead of the operator name (see picture of the left). It does not affect the phone in any other way.

To save some flash space without deleting any network names, you may consider deleting only the Unicode versions of some Far-East operator names and leave the ASCII versions there.

Download Write Network List 1.1
Developed for NokiX Scripts snapshot 6.10.2006. Includes a sample network list file containing 217 country codes and 816 operator (network) names.
Write Network List is able to dump also DCT-4 PLMN format. This allows you to copy the operator names from a DCT-4 phone flash file (most DCT-4 flash files are newer than DCT-3 ones) and then import the data into your DCT-3 phone. Because NokiX cannot process DCT-4 flash files, you must use a PPM managing tool (e.g. PPMMaker) to copy the DCT-4 PLMN chunk to a temporary DCT-3 flash file, which can be then processed with NokiX DUMPER mode.
CAUTION: Trying to modify the built-in firmware of a mobile phone may make it practically unrepairable. This applies especially to phones that does not have a separate EEPROM chip for settings and calibrations (e.g. most Nokia 3xxx phones). Before trying to update the flash memory, you need to understand the functions of your flashing program and the whole flashing process, including any checksum updates required. NuukiaWorld does not give any support in flashing-related questions.
